If you’re looking for a stock that instantly elevates your print piece with a sleek, polished shine, Kromekote is the star of the show. Our 12pt C1S Kromekote is a premium glossy paper known for its ultra-smooth surface and high-end appearance. But it’s also a stock that behaves differently than traditional gloss coatings, so here’s what you need to know before choosing it for your project.
What Makes Kromekote Special?
Kromekote comes pre-glossed on one side, meaning the shine is built directly into the paper itself, not added afterward. This gives it:
A sleeker, more refined gloss than standard gloss lamination or UV coating
A unique hand-feel that’s smooth without being plasticky
A crisp, clean reflective quality that instantly draws attention
Because the gloss is part of the paper, the surface looks luxurious before you even print on it.

How Does Printing on Kromekote Work?
Here’s the one thing people are often surprised by:Any ink printed on top of Kromekote will not be glossy.
The ink absorbs slightly and sits on the surface in a way that reduces the shine—so the only glossy areas will be the untouched white areas of the stock.
This means:
Great for Light to Medium Ink Coverage
Logos, text, simple graphics, spot illustrations, and areas with lots of white space look especially premium. The contrast between glossy paper and matte ink creates a sophisticated effect.
Heavy or Flood Coverage Creates a Unique Look

You can absolutely flood-print Kromekote, but keep expectations in mind:
The large printed areas will appear matte or satin, not glossy
The shine will remain only where white paper shows through
The contrast between glossy paper and inked areas can create a very cool, artistic effect - not a fully glossy one
If you want a full-gloss finish on all printed areas, this is not the stock for that.
How is Kromekote Different from Gloss Lamination or Gloss UV?
Many customers assume “gloss is gloss,” but these finishes behave very differently.
Kromekote (Glossy Paper)
Gloss is built into the stock
Lighter, sleeker, and more refined feel
Printed areas become matte/satin
Gloss remains only in unprinted areas
No additional film = more cost-efficient and more flexible
Thinner than laminated products
Gloss Lamination or Gloss UV (Glossy Coating)
Gloss is added on top of the print
Everything becomes glossy, including ink
Produces a thicker, more rigid piece
Adds extra production steps (and cost)
More “wet-look” or high-sheen shine
In short: Kromekote = built-in, subtle, premium gloss lamination/UV = added, high-impact, full-coverage gloss
When Should You Choose Kromekote?
Kromekote is ideal if you want:
A premium shine without extra coatings
A lighter but luxurious feel
A stock that stands out with minimal ink coverage
A sleek contrast between matte and gloss areas
A high-end look at a more budget-conscious price point
It’s a favorite for presentation folders, upscale marketing materials, luxury product inserts, and any design that benefits from a clean, sophisticated shine.
